Chalice Worship
Installation or Recognition of Persons in Music Ministries
This service is intended to take place within a regular Sunday service of worship. It
may be used for the installation or recognition of persons engaged in a variety of
roles in music leadership in the congregation- choirs, directors, song leaders, and
Statement of Purpose
The author of Ephesians encourages us to “sing psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts,
giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ.” (5:19-20)
Through the gifts of the Spirit, God calls men and women (and children and
youth) within Christ’s church to serve in ministries of music. To direct, to sing,
and to play instruments are ministries of Christ among us. We celebrate with
thanksgiving those who share their gifts with us through music.
Presentation of Music Leaders
Those having been called to serve in positions of music leadership may be
named. They may stand as named, and/or come forward to the front of the
Charge to Musicians and Congregation
The persons being recognized or installed are now addressed:
Making music to the praise of God in the congregation is a ministry that requires
devotion and discipline. Do you accept responsibility for this ministry?
Will you be faithful to the disciplines of music?
The congregation is now addressed:
To these persons has been given the ministry of music in the church. Will you
sustain them with your encouragement and your prayers, as together we seek to
offer praise to God?
Prayer of Blessing
Holy God, Master Musician,
bless these, your servants.
We will.
We will.
Grant them creativity, and stir their imaginations.
Tune their ears ever to hear your song of life,
echoing through the music of the spheres
and pulsing through their veins.
When discord comes upon them, help them and us
to look on it as a prelude to new ideas,
new harmonies, new possibilities for resolution.
Composer of the grand symphony of creation,
help us all to remember you have written a part
unique to each one of us in your sacred song.
Let the music of these, your servants
be the constant reminder of, and challenge to,
our own ministries of grace.
Grant that our music will ever glorify you. Amen.
